Car thefts leave costly hangover
Car thefts cost motorists an average of $1754 in lost time, insurance excesses and personal items, according to a NRMA car insurance survey.
Its group executive of personal insurance, Rick Jackson, said upon the figures' release yesterday: "Sydney is the car theft capital of Australia and Australia is close to being the car theft capital of the world."
And not only luxury cars or high-performance models are being stolen. Family sedans are regularly stolen, including Commodores, Falcons, Hyundai Excels, and Toyota Camrys.
