What was your first job? I worked in retail for
General Pants. But "worked" is a loose term.
What did you get paid? I think I started with
$9.73 an hour but at one point I was rolling in the cash when I got
older and was getting something like $25 an hour on Sundays. In
fact I'm surprised I didn't make the BRW Rich List.
Are you a saver or a spender? Spender. For
sure. I may as well get my pay evenly distributed to accounts at JB
Hi-Fi and Foot Locker.
What was your biggest splurge? I bought a new
car this year. It can fit stolen speakers quite easily in the boot,
which I've started selling on the black market to try to offset the
cost of the car.
What was your best bargain? I collect Back to
the Future merchandise and when I was in Japan, I found a 20th
anniversary box set for $80. I've never been so elated.
What was the best thing you've got for nothing?
Once I got dinner free.
What's the best piece of investment advice you have
heard? Buy low, sell high. I've never done that but I
always hear people say that.
What's the best piece of investment advice you've
actually acted upon? I thought my new car was a good
investment. Someone said to me, “Yeah, definitely buy a NEW
car! They only go UP in value!” but only now am I starting to
realise that I maybe missed the sarcasm.
Credit cards are: a) great b) helpful c) a poor
investment d) work of the devil
a) great.
Why? Because for a few weeks — until you
have to pay it off — it feels like free money!
I wish I had $1 for every (time) ... I bought a
DVD at JB Hi-Fi. Firstly I buy a lot of them and secondly I'd be
getting every DVD for a dollar off!
I'd be a millionaire if I gave up ... sneakers.
It's a strange situation when I know I have both too many sneakers
and not enough sneakers.
