Newcomers streak to head of field thanks to comeback kids

Some victims of the credit crunch are creeping into our top performing stocks. Last race it was Centro Properties making good, this week it's Babcock & Brown and Macquarie Bank satellites. Should you be heartened or worried? Good question but not one to worry our racers. After all, they're here for a good time, not a long time and the slow and steady accumulation of wealth has no place in a fantasy shares race.

And what a fine, cracking bunch of newcomers we have this week. DLA Phillips Fox partner Alec Christie presumably has much experience making huge amounts of money in a short time and is already up almost 3 per cent against a market that went the other way. A couple of healthcare hopefuls – Sirtex Medical and the emigrating Unilife Medical Solutions – were his best.

Hot on Alec's heels and rounding out a new-look top three are The Apprentice's Andrew Morello (who also picked Sirtex) and reader John Watson, who had a breakthrough with ChemGenex Pharmaceuticals. Touch footy coach Paul Hickey's pick of Virgin Blue played the appreciating dollar well; he beat the market for the week as well.
