Tax free rental income

Noel Whittaker | October 14 2009 | The Sydney Morning Herald & The Age (subscribe)

Can the income from a rental property be tax free after the age of 60?

Q.

In an answer I read (SMH 5th August - first question) it was implied that income from a rental property would be tax free after the age of 60. Can you please clarify the position?

A.

That question was referring to withdrawals from superannuation after a person reaches 60. Property rental is always assessable but can be reduced if the person has deductions they can claim.
