Buying shares from family

Noel Whittaker | August 12 2009 | The Sydney Morning Herald & The Age (subscribe)

Can I buy shares from my parents at a higher price than they are currently listed at?

Q.

A.

I am not sure what your proposed strategy is meant to achieve, but you should understand that, for tax purposes the transfer will be deemed to take place at current market value so there are no tax benefits to be had by transferring the fees at a higher than market price.
