Partial property sale

How can I sell my third of a shared-property?

Q.

I inherited one third of property and I want to sell my third. What steps do I need to take in order to sell?

A.

First talk to the executor of the estate to ensure the property can be sold at this time. Then talk to the other beneficiaries to see if they are prepared to buy your share from you. If they do you will need to talk to a valuer to arrange a mutually agreeable valuation - if they will not buy your share it will be extremely difficult to find a buyer for just one-third of the property.
