Withdrawing from super

Can I withdraw money from my super tax-free, even though my wife and I are still working?

Q.

My age is 55. I don't intend to retire at 60, however can I withdraw money from my super tax-free, even though my wife and I are still working?

A.

You cannot withdraw superannuation at age 55 unless you sign a statement that you are retiring. However, you can access a fair portion of it by using a transition to retirement pension. These are similar to a normal allocated pension except that you can't make lump sum repayments.
