Can you please explain what a share is? I would like to invest in shares.

A.

When you buy a share, you are buying part of the ownership of a business because a business is owned by its shareholders. If the business prospers, the shareholders should do well but if the business gets into trouble, the shareholders will suffer too. It's important to get advice before you invest in shares.
