Dartboard revels in Monto's flying circus

RICHARD WEBB | August 8 2005 | The Sydney Morning Herald & The Age (subscribe)

Fat Prophets' Jason McIntosh has set off in chase and traffic manager Jenny Pike is not out of this one yet, but "the Chairman of the Board", as it likes to be referred to, got wings in week two thanks to a fine tip on Monto Minerals.

This mini ilmenite, felspar, apatite and titanomagnetite explorer the magic stuff that helps make paint, porcelain, fertilisers and much more delivered a fourth quarter report and got a small share placement away. The combination was enough to send its share price more than 20 per cent higher in a week, leaving the Dartboard sitting pretty.

McIntosh manfully dug in with gold miner Resolute, while traffic manager Pike weaved her way through the pack from fifth at the end of week one to a handy-looking third. But that gap with the Dartboard is growing.

Lest there be any confusion, Pike has the job title of traffic manager but has nothing to do with roads, apparently although she may drive to work. But her title is because she controls the flow of work at an ad agency.

We like the cut of her share-tipping jib too not going out too early, then pacing her way through the pack in week two. A very measured and controlled performance. Let's hope she lands a couple of key accounts in weeks three and four to see the Dartboard off. Most of us are still smarting from astrologer Doreen Daze's victory in the last race, but two in a row from the share-tipping space cadet would create our own war of the worlds. Share race respectability is at stake here; we want tipsters fine and true, tipsters who have spotted value and are prepared to put their name and photo to 10 big ones over four weeks. Not these chancers, running at a million to one, they said.

Thankfully the historians have been at work, and in a bid to break the fug that has befallen our competition because of the Daze/Dartboard stranglehold, the chairman has requested a call of champions. This is the 53rd clash of our share tipster titans, who has won the most?

Cue drum roll. Cue trumpet. Cue Richard Burton: "Across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours have regarded this share race with envious eyes to them, our king is . . . Doreen Daze with seven wins!"

Can it get any worse? Nope. Bring on week three.
