Short term investments

Noel Whittaker | September 29 2003 |

Budget: $5,000

Q.

I am looking to invest about $5,000 but since I have not been involved with investing, am unsure what sort of investment I should start with? I am looking for short-term investments for approximately three to five years.

A.

You start by talking to a financial adviser who can assess your risk profile and discuss the various sorts of investments with you. My personal view is that conservative managed funds that invest in Australian industrial shares would be suitable for your needs. Just be aware that you will need a time frame of at least five years.
