If I had $50,000 ... Kerri-Anne Kennerley, television show host
Asequin-topped Kerri-Anne Kennerley
is lazing on a dressing room lounge
as the frisson of her just finished
television show is still bubbling throughout
the Channel Nine studios and beyond.
"The practical side of me says, ‘OK, take
50 grand and whack it off the mortgage',"
says the star of Mornings with Kerri-Anne.
"I mean, there's no question. You've
gotta do that. But hey, a windfall's a
windfall, and I'm a strong
believer in luck and karma, and if
you haven't seen it before, just
enjoy the experience. If you
spread it around, you never know
where it's going to come back."
The idea of spending her 50
grand clearly tickles Kennerley's
fancy and, like a kid in a lolly
shop, she spends with glee.
"I'd have to take five grand and
buy myself a brand new set of
Callaway golf clubs – it's the best
golf club in the world," she says.
She sounds like she has the set
picked out already. "Oh yeah, I
know exactly what I want," she says. "The
new Great Big Bertha, which was launched
last November. That and the full set of VFT
Callaways. Golf is such a good sport. You
meet fabulous people and the corporate
side of golf is wonderful." ");document.write("

Corporate side? "Well, it's the sporting,
non-lunching form of networking," she
says. "The healthy version. I love it."
Now that she's cashed up, does
Kennerley hear the faint yet unmistakable
call of the market?
"There's a speculative share – Lucent – a
technology company, but it's listed in
America," she says. "I wish I'd bought it last
October when it was a really good buy, but
it's one of those few technology dot com
shares that I think is strong and is going to
be as strong in the future. I don't gamble in
the stockmarket very much but
I'd take 10 grand, and ... "
Kennerley pauses, taking a deep
breath, as if diving into a pool
"... whack it in there."
Any treats for Casa
Kennerley? "I'd take five grand
and buy a little art," she says.
"There's a new artist called
Elizabeth Wadsworth who's just
lovely. I've got one of her
paintings at my house and I
think she's going to be fantastic
in 10 years."
And the final 15? "I did a
cruise once on the Seabourne
Legend, which was fantastic," she whispers,
as if describing Ali Baba's cave. "Now this is
a serious, lovely five-star boat and the
people you meet on there are really
fascinating. I'd take my husband on that one
because not only is it a great holiday but
you also meet wonderful people. I love the
cruising lifestyle. It's fabulous."
